Agree or disagree with the following statement: it is more important to award students for effort (trying
or hard working) than for achievement (good grades)

With the education
is more and more popular, a question comes with this phenomenon. Which standard
should we use to evaluate students? Some people hold that the only standard is
the result score. Another people believe that we should use efforts which
students pay to evaluate. I think these two views both are partly true and need
to improve. I will describe my point of view from different case.

    

 

    

First of all,
getting a score must occur after a test. The effort is not the only factor
which affects the result of test. Many factors will affect the performance on
test. Now let me list some of them. Firstly, the subject of score is just in a
small range. Those students who don’t get a high score in these subjects may be
performing well in other subject or field and they just don’t like these
testing subjects. Secondly, the content of test will also affects the result of
the test. Some students may review the content which is contained in the test
before the exam and other students may review another content which is not
contained in the test. Consequently, students who review the test content will
get a high score. From these examples before, we can draw a conclusion that
simply using scores to evaluate is not fair to every student and even ignore
the talent of some students in other field.

    

 

    

Second, not every
student get a high score by hard working. Different students belong to
different types. Some students belong to the test-type. They may not take
enough effort in spare time but they can well perform on test and get a high
score. Of course, there are also some genius students. They may take half of
even more little afford which normal students take. So simply using efforts to
evaluate is unfair too.

    

 

    All in all, we don’t just
look at one aspect of this question, we should look at it from many angle. I think
we should combine the test score and effort with the performance of
extracurricular to evaluate students’ performances.
