大家好,我是北京来的Vincent(Lisa她们见到的是东北的Vincent),是Roc的在中大的同学。

多谢Roc,Robert,Albert and Jacky!希望这里的同学把我们中大互帮互助的精神发扬光大,明年也同样热心地帮助下一届。

Dear Students,

Many of you expressed concerns about heavy work load and how this impact on your decisions to take on activities outside the designated courses. You have been reminded of a "reality baseline" i.e. below 2.7 GPA and you're out of the program.     It is also true and maintaining at least a 2.7 GPA will ensure that you stay in.

May I suggest a few ways to address your fears and not be paralyzed to the extent that you only work within the confines of coursework and assignments:

1.                 Did you ever think that an MBA program is going to be light work? Absolutely not. You come in knowing and expecting that it will be heavy going. This is hardly new and shocking revelation to all of you. Having said that, you also are a full-time MBA student and have the opportunity of time to soak in the courses and more.     Enjoy the experience of being back at school and more so, campus living; making new friends, eating canteen food (often served with gusto by the canteen servers)!

2.                        Experiences and information gained in activities beyond the courses have relevance.     The process of leveraging, making connections and applications enriches the course material.     This effort is yours to make and is critical to the learning process. (Please see attachment).

3.                        Helen Keller said "Alone, we do so little; together, we can do so much".     Learning by yourself is limiting.     So get into discussions about the topics and issues with other people. Study in groups and be sure that you contribute as much as you gain. The synergy in a group is incredibly beneficial to your intellectual understanding and emotional health!

4.                        The key is not to manage TIME, but ENERGY.     This means that you have to replenish and strengthen your store of energy. You do this by maintaining balance in these dimensions: physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual. To illustrate:

Physical: Make time for rest (after 90 minutes of reading, discussion, take a break); drink enough water; eat a balanced meal; exercise.

Intellectual:     Know and understand - MBA courses with reading and discussion. Keep your innovative and creative juices flowing; read about things outside MBA courses; know about current issues.     Tackle the unfamiliar not just "play safe" with familiar thoughts and ideas.     Watch movies that make you think e.g. "The Hours" and "Seabiscuit".     Talk about the movie with friends. (I am now re-reading "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley).

Emotional:     Seek to be with friends and families who care about you - and care back.     When troubled, talk to someone. Give and receive emotional support.     Experience the excitement of making new friends.

Spiritual:     Nurture the values of personal and academic honesty and integrity.     Respect and value the feelings and opinions of other people. Strive for meaning and purpose in what you do.     Enlarge your "comfort zone". Aim for "triple bottom-line" in your MBA education:     1. better career prospects and higher paying jobs; 2. expanded and high quality network of friends and associates; 3. a chance to make this world a better world.

What I am proposing are life skills that will come in handy even after you graduate. You already have the capacity for these dimensions and now you must "re-light the fire". As William Butler Yeats said, "Education is not filling a bucket, but lighting a fire". Strive to achieve balance in these energy dimensions.     These dimensions also nourish and strengthen each other.

May I propose that your first steps into the MBA Program be charged with positive energy and anticipation of joy not just fear.     We can live with contradictions.     Great companies according to Collins and Porras in their book, "Built to Last" follow the "genius of the AND".     These companies create shareholder value AND do good for the world.

I will be delighted to meet and talk about your hopes and dreams in building the career that you seek.

With sincerity,

Bee Leng

欢迎你,Vincent!

昨天才知道Karol也是这里的注册用户,但这厮自打来了中大之后,就很少来这里了,偶尔来过也闷声不吭的,要批评批评他。。。
