翻过前面的帖子，发现没有人问这个问题。。。。

The rising of costs of data-processing operations at many financial institutions has created a growing opportunity for independent companies to provide these services more efficiently and at lower cost.

(C) The rising cost

(D) Because the rising cost（C）

(E) Because of rising costs

答案没有问题，我的问题在 and at lower cost，这里 and at lower cost 在明显是修饰 independent companies to provide these services 这个动作，且和 more efficiently 平行。

即是说：

more efficiently ，adj+adv，more 修饰efficiently ，efficiently 修饰provide 这个动作；

at lower cost，prep+adj+noun，整体修饰provide 这个动作。

即adv 和介词短语对称，两者都用来修饰一个动作。

所以可推出，

and 连接的两部分不一定要形式对称，只要能完成相同功能也可以，当然形式对称更好。

不知道对否。

services 是名词啊，后面more eff 是 副词短语啊

恩，楼主看的真仔细，以前的确没发现这个问题。

楼主的观点我认为是对的。平行结构通常情况下应该形式对称，但是如果语言结构不同但属于同一层次且句法功能相同也可并列（白勇）。另外我曾在gemj前辈的总结中看到过，GMAT中平行结构中形式不对称的情况还是比较常见的。

补充：白勇平行一章中列举了15中重要的平行结构，其中有一种就是   副词与介词短语平行 做状语

楼主分析我认为是对的，平行结构对称中功能相同也是一种。只是弱弱的问一句，好象是efficiently和at lower 共同修饰cost,是吗，是吗？
