答案：E。对E的正确性没有疑问。但是想请教下E选项中最后的as much depth是什么意思？if后面的可以理解为“如果他们被研究到同样的深度”对吗？但是一般都是用as much as，这里怎么会as much + n.就结束了呢？请nn多多指教！

你的理解很对，肯定是如果他们被研究到同样的深度的意思。

in depth adv. 深刻的

as much  ，adv. 一样地  同样的事

不过我觉得用as much in depth更好....

见：

I am sure she would do as much for me.

我确信她同样会为我做这些事的。

  I thought as much,我也这样想。

究竟是in as much depth还是as much in depth更好这个我也不太清楚。那要看as much是修饰前面动词studied还是修饰depth的
