答案是E,但我觉得D似乎更对。书上说D错误的原因是make sth sth，不加as，但是这里其实可以是make his letters the rival of the best novels of the time, as a group是修饰letters的，意为“他的信件作为一个整体是其他小说的rival”，这样的解释更make sense，而且跟原题的as a group更接近

大家觉得呢？

D:make sth sth, as sth/make sth as sth, sth--- 不懂make成最后那个STH还是中间的。

E:make sth sth which....----无歧意

MM你可以查一下字典，的确没有make A as B这样的搭配

另外， make his letters as a group the rival of the best novels of the time，是 make A as B C了。也就是as后跟了两个名词。更加不对了。

谢谢大家的解答，看来是我想得比较多了

其实我的意思是 make his letters, as a group, a rival of...    

as a group是插入语，主句还是make his letters a rival of, 因为前面是letters，后面是a rival，貌似有些不匹配，所以加上as a group有解释作用，意为，“这些信，作为一个整体，是rival”，而不是每封信单独是rival

是不是没有逗号隔开就很容易产生歧义？

好吧，总之e是更没有歧义的啦，只是我以为D跟A 里的as a group都是作为插入语的，这样的话d跟a更接近

唉，sc里的rules太多了，太不容易把握，感觉题做得越多越迷糊了
