我认为正确答案应该是C. 这里which定语从句就是修饰限定local times, 这句话的意思是 当地时间由太阳到达观察着的子午点决定并且每个城市都不同。

而正确答案E是不是更倾向于说 铁路的增加导致取消local times 这一事件 是由by when the sun reached the observer’s meridian and differing 来决定

如果E答案也修饰限定local times，那么我认为which定语从句不是更比分词准确，不产生歧义吗？

汗，我看错了，如果选C的话那么后面就不能用differing了，因为作为定语从句有which做主语了，应该用differed

and 前后要对称

C中从句和短语不对称，differing换成differed就和E有异曲同工的地方了

E中两个分词修饰的是local times，比从句更简洁

不是也不会，划线部分后面的"and to the establishment of regional times"消除了歧义
