是选B.破折号引导主句的同位语；than后面主语一致，所以省略了主语。

我认为E在语法上还是说得过去，可是不如B答案清晰。两个逗号割裂了修饰部分于主题的关系，让fewer than和people的逻辑关系变得模糊。此外，当比较句型中出现主谓一致的情况，主谓都可以省略，只留下状语或者介词短语。也就是说，在E合理的前提下，the ones可以省略。
