选择一种人生，站在PHD路口，你将如何抉择？

和一个senior professor聊过，accounting phd除了学校基本就是去standard setting board或者govenment,Research-oriented non-profits organizations，但这些基本都要US citizen。Accounting这行经验和证书最终要，学历是最不重要的，不像finance的phd还可以做Model。

有工作经验将是一个很大的优势，越来越多的学校招phd的时候prefer CPA licence(i.e.至少考出cpa并工作过），我们学校的所有accounting professor都有工作经验。美国人很多都是先在big four/investment bank干几年再申请的，现在还有一个趋势是重视ability to teach，在这两个方面他们有很大优势。

觉得美国人和中国人的动机很不同：美国人基本是industry做累了想回学校，中国人想着能不能借phd跳到industry.

我也有同学读硕士申phd，但是她是先去四大混上一年拿到licence再申请。

i think you can be a charming entre pro in bschool for your picking skills and entre experience. hahahahaha

first of all, my case is a little bit different from what you are talking about. i am 24 now. i do not think that is the best couples of years in life. 22-26 is the time for learning and gaining experience and diversification. after 28, is the time to settle down and everything doing should be related to career. however, even if some phds in their best couples of years, it is worthful doing acc phd for the following reasons:

1. you can refer to the what does research bring to bschool post for the answer. i have a similar idea here.

2.whether it is a trade-off depends on your career path. if you just want to a have highly paid job in industry. cma plus a good master is quite enough. however, if you enjoy research and want to do some thing chaning the b world from the standard level and want to influence others by teaching, the sense of achievement can only be gained via a phd degree.

And, I said, usually, a prof combines his industrial experience; I rarely see ppl without a bit exeperience in top b schools that I have researched.

Datz excatly the thing -- that 's why many profs hold or held positions in firms or regulatory agencies. A prof without experience will always be challenged.

Entry level, problly -- Big 4 are not hit that badly and business contracts are almost the same in major fields. I heard, because of the crisis, it is easier to get H1B and work permit policy in UK and Canada has been loosen a little bit.

i talked with some pros with no previous working experience in iese. they said it is not a big deal. however, i don´t think they are that confient in their deep heart. hahahha

Do they have post-doc experience or how old were they when they became a prof?

I can barely find one in the programs I am interested but there must be a few guys in pure academic-track, if not a lot. 

There are some genius in stat depart in utoronto became prof directly after his completion of phd.
