请教贴:阅读里指代的题不会做

阅读里总有和指代有关的题,总是错

特别是那些定语从句,比如

1.He drilled holes in the ships, which were filled with flash powder.中which指代什么

2.He has made contributions to techology that are little known today.中that指代什么

3.He built a model of a house, whose design is still used to this day.中whose指代什么

感觉很迷糊,有没有一个统一的准则呢?还是全靠语感判断?

TOEFL有这种题么……我练了不少，考了两次试都没见过考定语从句关系词的……

定语从句一般是跟在它修饰的词后面的吧，所以关系词一般就应该指代它前面的那个词或词组……

If there is comma before "which and  that" , "Which and that" commonly represent the prenoun. Otherwise(no comma), it should represent the immediate noun or pronoun.

1.He drilled holes in the ships, which were filled with flash powder.中which指代什么(holes)

2.He has made contributions to techology that are little known today.中that指代什么(technology)

3.He built a model of a house, whose design is still used to this day.中whose指代什么(his)

这里的that应该指代contributions，因为后面用的是are，如果是technology，后面应该是is。

3.He built a model of a house, whose design is still used to this day.中whose指代什么(his)

这里的whose指代的是house's，定语从句用法的一种，可以用whose指代"XX的"，这里"XX"可以是物。这里指代的是“这个房子的design”。相当于以下句子：

He built a model of a house, the design of which is still used to this day.

He built a model of a house. The design of the house is still used to this day.

再给你一个例子：

My homeland is China, whose population is the largest in the world.

这种语法在高考，四六级，托福里面是对的，在GMAT语法题里面是错的。
