答案是E，我的理解是fewer polutants,

白勇书上说是 emit less of pollutants ,less of向前修饰动词emit,而不是修饰pollutants

或者也可以用排除其他几个选项来做这题.

按照赵丽的说法，比较题型出现that,those选项优先，这里的话less of 修饰的是emit，不是pollutants，所以不用改成fewer。

借楼问一下，those跟后面的burning是什么搭配，those具体指代什么？

我的理解，less of是修饰emit，如果是修饰pollutions应该直接用fewer不加of

those代替vehicles

3楼说的不无道理。不过就此题而言，我个人认为原文中的certain pollutants 表明是某些种类的污染物，所以这里用less是要表达这些种类的污染物的排放量少了，fewer不能修饰污染物的量，只能修饰污染物的种类，即如果原文没有certain这个特定修饰的词，应该用fewer。类似题目请参照PREP2-90.

A.   正确，二氧化碳气体是不可数名词，因此对应使用 far less carbon dioxide gas，表示二氧化碳排放“量”的少；the other gases 本身使用了复数形式 gases，表示其他气体的种类，因此对应使用修饰可数名词的 fewer，fewer of the other gases 表示其他气体排放“种类”的少。
