hmm...aeoluseros兄說得是, 介詞之後要接名詞性的東西.
可是in/to/on/etc有兩種詞性: 介詞和副詞.  Longman上有提到.
我**感覺**這個in doing something是一個副詞短語, 因為它是在修一個動詞 -- fall, 解釋fall in 那一方面.
anyway, 不管這個in是介詞或是副詞, "in his/her/their/my/your/its doing something"在OG跟prep上都沒有出現在對的句子.
我**感覺**in doing something一直都是一個副詞短語, 如果表"那一方面", 應該用"in doing something"...可能是一個固定的用法.

有it不能说它错，只能说it可以省.C最大的错误在于its paying使paying名词化，而不再是动名词，应该改为in its pay for doctors and hospitals.尽管如此，还是动名词形式好，动词优于名词简洁.

同意斑斑 这个主要是说这里its paying的paying是用现在分词做名词 但是它本来有正经的名词形式payment 所以这里不对 就像很多题里面 her discorvering肯定不对 因为有discovery这个正经名词 her using不对因为有use这个名词

我查了一下Longman 只看到fall behind with sth. 例如fall behind with the work.我猜想这个题想考的就是fall behind in doing这个用法 或许就没有fall behind in sth.例如fall behind in payment这样的用法

终于找到知音了，我也一直沉迷于此观点，and，but当连词用，而且还加逗号的时候，到底是跟完整句子还是何以省略

我只能总结出一下经验：

如果只出现and，没有逗号，那么必定不能跟句子

例如：She picked up the kitten and put it in the box.

        She said that ... and that...(no commer)

但是如果and和逗号同时出现，主语相同时可以省略的，例如本题，和你举例的题

想弱弱地问,那么while用在这里到底有错没有？总觉得就算while在这里当although(尽管）讲也逻辑意思上不恰当，因为it proved unable to handle the business是发生在这之后的事情，用but表转折比较合适...
