For foreign chinese, from what I know about the similar degree program at Berkeley, it is really bad right now.
I think you should shoot for MBA.
it is also tough for chinese MBA students though. But CMU's Chinese students are ok in their job hunting. About 60% got offer, some are special cases though.
corporate finance is the second to manufacturing, in terms of the number of cmu studnets got offers from this year. Quite a few of them got analysts positions.
Ok, guys, there are some job placement data I obtained from their website -- How will you compare it to other univs? Seems their 2001 data is really encouraging... but who knows the economics will get better or not one year later?
2002 Graduates
16 seeking jobs, 6 got offers 3 months after grad. 3 got offers later time.
Totoal offers: 9/16 | Avg Salary: $78,666.67 Most found their jobs by on-campus or own research Most students go to Financial Services, such as investment bank.
2001 Graduates
14 seeking jobs, 12 got offers 3 months after grad. 1 got later time. Total: 13/14 | Avg Salary: $81,100.00
You said it... let me ask you this question the other way... do Top10 MBA programs prefer their admits to be from BIG name companies... my past experience is definitely not this type... I have a couple of years unsuccessful start-up experience, which may sound not too impressive at all.
There is a dilemma here -- For those who have a decent job with highly-paid wage, why waste time and money on an MBA degree? For those people without a good job and want to change their current situation, MBA is the *real* necessary choice.

Man, the total expense will be more than $70000.00, and 2002 placement is so terrible, i attened their forum in 2002, the school career service doesnt service for Computatonal Finance, and if u dont have green card, things will be the worst, the recuiter will now interview all the internationa students. go to wallstreet journal to read some real articles...
