Top 5 finance PhD programmes in the US (from a professor of Finance who graduated from Harvard):Chicago, Stanford, MIT, Princeton and Harvard.

Standford and MIT are slightly more theoretical.

你说的前5基本正确，但实际上HBS和princeton作的大部分是偏经济的，金融topic不算主流。
stanford好像最近2年placement有所下滑了，估计是那几个大牛似乎不怎么出力了。chicago基本上都是天才们自力更生的，放羊教育。

MIT一个大牛也说，除了前5 其它学校基本差别不大了，当然他的境界毕竟不一样，是从学术领导地位来说的。

another comment regarding PhD in finance:"Being smart is not enought, you have to be hardworking..."

I always find one thing funny about Stanford: they seem to like applicants who have already got a PhD in maths, physics, etc. A total waste of educational resources...But Duffie is really awesome...
