句子的大致结构是这样的：Galileo did not invent sth but on hearing sth, he quickly built sth..

简单的看，其实是Galileo did not invent but he quickly built...一个并列结构。并列结构主谓一致，除非有明显的时间状语。

而on hearing sth 是第二层的句子，并不是这个与Galileo did not invent the telescope并列。

你不知道这样解释对不对。

B 中的 having been made不能做定语成分。而且but后面少了一个主语
