动词形式-现在进时,有些动词(表示状态或感觉的词,或者表示极短暂的动作)一般用现在进时,比如:declare recognize 等,finish 是表示极短暂动作的动词,用现在进时态;表达平意思的动词最好用一致的时态,除非有特别的时间标志。
   

子结构,当子中有现在分词结构时,注意是否该分词应该是原的动词。
   

惯用语-介系词,increase to 是固定搭配,increase up to 是错误的,up 多余,应该去掉。
   

逻辑表达,现在分词结构在尾可作定语修饰紧的名词,也可作形容词修饰整个子,所以在这种情况下需要特别注意,通常优先作定语修饰名词,如果符合逻辑,则是作形容词修饰子,如果二者都能解符合逻辑,则明该分词结构有修饰歧义。

(B) 表示极短暂动作的动词finish用进时态,故现在分词结构应该改为子形式作定语;整个子缺少动词;finishing…, increasing…, rising…有平的嫌疑,而且riseincrease语意重复(Redoundency)
   

(C) 现在完成时having finished与后面的时态一致;riseincrease语意重复(Redoundency)
   

(D) either or…连接的对象对称,而且表达的意思也与原有所同;现在分词结构increasing有作定语就近修饰diplomas的歧义,increase应该是子的动词;riseincrease语意重复(Redoundency)
   

(E) 正确,who引导形容词子,修饰名词students,平动词finished or earned

好像中学语法里是讲过瞬间动词不用进行时这样的内容,记不太清了。

不过从中文意思看,“正在结束”这样的说法也比较奇怪吧。

希望有NN路过指点。

但是,我经常听到有人说,im finishing up......难道不可以这样用吗?

嗯,这个,挠头。。。我只能说这是语法考试,你听到别人说的未必就是符合书面语法规范的呀。你知道GMAT语法很多规矩是很死板的,比如限制性定语从句只用that当引导词,而现实中大家也用which。

词穷。。。
