Whether to follow the customs of a new country or to keep their own customs?

The issue of whether people should change their customs when moving to another country is a controversial one. Faced with this question, people might give different answers due to respective experiences and standpoints. Some people might argue that we should respect local culture and follow the new customs. Others, on the contrary, would like to choose to keep their own customs. As far as I am concerned, of the two points, I advocate that the former should be an advisable choice. My reasons are listed as follows.

For one thing, as we may all aware, travelling to another country is a precious life experience not only because people would see beautiful scenery but also because they would have chance to experience a totally different culture. Just imagine you are citizen of this country, and act in the way as local people do, you could act in a way different with that in your country, maybe this will also help you to understand more about a new culture, and even the way people think in this new country.

What's more, when moving to a country, people should at least show some respect to the country's culture. At this means, adopting this country's customs is of great importance and will make residents happy and comfortable. For example, whenever I see a foreigner using chopsticks in the restaurant, I feel very glad and emotionally close with him.

Admittedly, keeping your own customs might make life relatively easier by not trying hard to learn kinds of new things. It might also be a way to demonstrate your own customs to people in this country. However, if all the factors are contemplated, it is obvious that the advantages of adopting new customs carry more weight than those of just keeping people's own customs.

In sum, I would like to say that following the customs of a new country is a sagacious choice for several reasons, among them learning more knowledge about a new country, and showing respect to the people and culture of a new country. Thus, whenever I visit a country I would like to follow its customs.
