我觉得B这里啰嗦不啰嗦不是焦点，关键的是整体的逻辑关系错误了。如版主说的，A中说了两点，the average output of ironwork tripled的原因，1是因为：(as a result of) several improvements in blowing machiner，2是因为： （and
because） coal replaced charcoal as the fuel used in the smelting of
iron
ore。这两个原因缺一不可，B中没有了因果关系的连接词，错。这种题不宜扣得太细，出题人主要考察逻辑关系。还有一点是时间状语，只有A把时间状语用
“，”和整句分开，放在句首，让逻辑关系清楚明白，其他的都比较含糊，也不符合英文的表达习惯。

I agree. 逻辑意思才是重点，这道题关键是把因果关系说清楚，两个原因导致一个结果。
B.    Over the course of the eighteenth century atripling in the average output of ironwork was due to the replacement ofcharcoal by coal for the fuel used in the smelting of iron ore, in addition toseveral improvements in blowing machinery. 原因与结果关系不明确，两个原因之间的并列关系不明确，整个句子结构也比较wordy and awkward.

C.   With charcoal’s beingreplaced by coal as the fuel used in the smelting of iron ore and severalimprovements in blowing machinery, the average output of ironwork tripled overthe eighteenth century. 这里使用with，就已经丧失了原句要表达的因果含义，并且with charcoal's being的使用也相当的awkward；同时，从时态上考虑，用being也不合适，因为整个句子描述的是发生在过去的事情，没有任何提示表明replace正在进行。

D.   The replacement of charcoalwith coal for the fuel used in the smelting of iron ore and severalimprovements in blowing machinery, the average output of ironwork tripled overthe eighteenth century. 这里句子的第一部分没有任何连词，两个原因被当成句子主语the average output的同位语了。

E.   Charcoal being replaced by coal as the fuelused in the smelting of iron ore, and several improvements in blowingmachinery, which tripled the average output of ironwork over the course of theeighteenth century. 不是一个完整的句子，缺main verb.

with + 名词所有格 + being是什么结构？我认为这是独立主格的一种错误表述，即缺少主格名词。让人不知道独立主格字面意思上的主语是谁。

如果是独立主格结构才可以考虑C为答案，但要改为With charcoal being，即with + 名词 + 现在分词，或者With charcoal replaced，即with + 名词 + 过去分词。这里直接用过去分词更好，简洁表达被动含义。

我同意，我觉得时间状语是个主要的考查点。从一本网上的语法材料摘抄如下：

Sometimes, a prepositional phrase can be at the beginning of a sentence. If this is the case, it is followed by a comma.

所以，B的Overthe course of the eighteenth century后面应该加一个comma.

另外，in addition 我认为不能像and那样连接两个并列的成分，due to..., in addition to...是不对的。可以这样想，addition其实是一个名字，in addition to其实是一个状语成分。 如果用and还有可能对。正如下面所说的：

"Coordinating conjunctions are words which link, or coordinate, two or more similar words, phrases, or clauses together into one fluid idea. Words that are considered coordinating conjunctions are and, but, or and nor."

刚开始研究语法，不对请指出或给我发信。

应该都可以表示用B代替A的意思吧

C不能体现 [ ( 能源升级 ∩ 设备升级 ) → 总产量提升 ] 的因果关系, 而A能体现. 语法方面, A欠精简但语法依然正确.
