这道题目我做了3遍，每次都错。 太晕了。我的不成熟的想法

investigate 【what the effects （changes in working conditions would have on workers' performance）】
            

小括号后面的都是修饰effect的， 所以明显的，这里缺少谓语。

而你举的另外一个例子

【What scientists know about dinosaur brains】 comes  from studies of the cranium, the bony house of the brain located in the back of the skull.

有谓语comes

所以对。

我也说说看法，其实我对有what的另外一道题也很晕，

我查了半天大全，what基本上相当于the thing which使用，引导主语从句和宾语从句，不当疑问代词使用，即会有出现what effect, 或what changes的时候。

所以这道题里面的E, to investigate what the effects changes in working conditions would have on workers' performance, 结构上来讲的话，应该是what 直接指effect, 所以应该是to investigate what would happen in worker's performance after changes are made.

这个what我也很晕，明天把它发上来看看。

(E) Located in the back of the skull is the cranium, the bony house of the brain, and it is from studies

investigate the thing which (the effects changes in working conditions would have on workers' performance) 这样看很清楚，缺谓语，另外 which 无法在从句中充当成分

再来看

the thing which (scientists know about dinosaur brains) comes  from studies of the cranium, the bony house of the brain located in the back of the skull. 

which 在从句中作宾补 scientists know about dinosaur brains the thing which comes from studies of the cranium, the bony house of the brain located in the back of the skull.
