先用they were armed 排除ABD
因为 they armed equipment 较合理

E中 treavling…与 arming…应该有个连词，且主语相隔太远不选
C traveling = who travel ; armed= who armed省略。挺好。选了。

Good question!  I am not very sure.  
This looks like a 分词构句.  But I haven't find any rule to indicate that "and" can be omited.  

Is there anybody knows?
