第一篇作文,请大家都多指教,谢谢:) 题目:Should the government focus more on preserving natural environment and less on economic development?
It’s always a hot debate on whether government should concentrate more on economic development instead of natural environmental preservation. Although a former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping said "Development is of overriding importance", in my opinion, government should not pursue economic development blindly while putting natural environment at risk. I will elaborate on my view in the following paragraphs.
Firstly, natural environmental conservation could facilitate economic development. A sustained and rapid economic growth depends on a lot of elements, such as natural resource, science and technology, talents, capital and so on. By no means does natural resource play a key role in economic development, while a good supply of natural resource is closely related with natural environment. Therefore, to get a sound economic growth, government should pay more attention to protecting natural environment.
Secondly, it’s difficult and costly to reverse or repair natural environment pollution. If the government decides to develop economy on the basis of natural environmental damage today, they will pay much more to repair or even to slow down the damage tomorrow. For example, in order to get more economic profit, a paper mill named Hongxing, in Jiangsu Province China, easily polluted a river in 3 months by pouring unprocessed waste water into it. However, it cost the local government over half a year and 7 million RMB to make the river clear again.
Last but not least, to give our offspring a chance to live in a wonderful world, natural environment conservation is a much wiser choice. Imagine that if our coming generations live in a world with neither clean air nor water, or they are surrounded by desert and barren hills. Even though they are rich, would they be grateful to our endeavor to give them a "developed world"? The answer is definitely "no". Our descendants would prefer to live in a world with verdant trees and breathe in fresh air at any time they want. Consequently, it’s a sustainable economic development that environment preservation can promise to human being. |
