Giuseppe Alessi, a world-class chef whose life has been a search for the genuine and the delicious in Florentine cooking, is an accomplished scholar not only unearthing many of his recipes from medieval and Renaissance manuscripts but also a poet and philosopher who draws his inspiration from the idyllic frescoes of Etruscan tombs.
    A. not only unearthing many of his recipes from medieval and Renaissance manuscripts but also a poet and philosopher who draws
    B. unearthing many of his recipes both from medieval and Renaissance manuscripts, as well as a poet and a philosopher who draws
    C. who unearths many of his recipes from medieval and Renaissance manuscripts, as well as a poet and a philosopher who draws
    D. who unearths many of his recipes from medieval and Renaissance manuscripts, but also a poet and a philosopher drawing
    E.  unearths many of his recipes from medieval and Renaissance manuscripts, a poet and philosopher drawing

Seems no answer is correct.

A: not only ..ing but also a poet ==> X
B: both from XX and (from) YY; "a poet and a philosopher" should be "a poet and philosopher" ==> X
C: "a poet and a philosopher" should be "a poet and philosopher" ==> X
D: "but also" is not preceded by "not only"; "a poet and a philosopher" should be "a poet and philosopher" ==> X
E: is an scholar unearths... this is a run-on sentence. ==> X

Any one has any idea? Thanks!

I think that C is fine.
If you simplify the sentence, it will look like:
Giuseppe Alessi is an accomplished scholar as well as a poet and a philosopher.

這題我覺得a poet and philosopher也可以.
大部份的情況下a [noun] and a [noun]和a [noun] and [noun]是沒有區別.

Of course, there are exceptions (as always):
Vivian finished a spahegetti and meat by herself. <--a spahegetti and meat
Vivian finished a spahegetti and a meat by herself.

I think that C is correct.

Giuseppe Alessi is an accomplished scholar( who unearths 定语从句) as well as a poet and a philosopher( who draws 定语从句)

原因:

1。 平行对称,an accomplished scholar , 。。。。 a poet and a philosopher

2. who draws... a poet and philosophe 不能 agree ( who draws)。 所以 who draws... 修饰 a philosophe。

我记得上学时学到这个知识点,形容人的头衔或评价的那种词都用a A and B,如果出现a A and a B是错误的。比如说,he is a painter and singer,不能说he is a painter and a singer。

a poet and philosophe

umm...沒聽說過such "absolute" rule.

OG11#46. Long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate, Josephine Baker made Paris her home, and she remained in France during the Second World War as a performer and an intelligence agent for the Resistance.
