我觉得是What was back into the ...., once 与when 的意思相同，即当。。时候

这句主语是what was once sea floor.

谓语是is swept

through.....of the earth是定语,back into....是宾语的补足语.

补充一点：mantle地幔，是地表与地核之间的岩石层——其实不用知道，猜也能猜出来。
