The Patriot Act (anti terrorist) requires that the bank to verify a client's SSN for openning an account along with a physical address. 2. Internal Revenue Service also requires the bank to verify a client's SSN for interest bearing accounts such as a checking account or savings account. David, were you able to open a bank account with out a SSN in the states? At any rate, it only takes couple of weeks to get a SSN. Yes, you can open a bank account without SSN. I hear people opening account without SSN all the time. 1.If I remember right, you just need to present after Patriot Act, no SSN needed. 2.If you are foreigner, you can fillout a tax exempt form for interest. After all, SSN these days is only given for work purpose, not everyone can get it. ( of course, it's so easy to find an on-campus job) |
