Dr. Ken Miller

Ken Miller is a former Senior Advisor at Lehman Brothers and the CEO and President of Ken Miller
Capital, LLC, a merchant banking firm specializing in private equity investing. At Lehman, Mr. Miller’s principal function is advising CEO’s and other senior corporate officers on strategic matters.

He is the former Vice Chairman of Credit Suisse First Boston, a global investment banking firm. In this position, he served as financial advisor to many wealthy individuals and a number of the world’s largest corporations. At Credit Suisse First Boston, as now at Lehman, Mr. Miller specialized in the media, telecommunications and Internet sectors but he was called on by all the specialty areas of the Firm, including real estate, capital markets, and mergers and acquisitions when clients required advice on especially sensitive or complex transactions.

Over the years, Mr. Miller has been the prime mover and principal architect of many complex ground breaking capital raising projects. He has served as the lead banker on many of the larger transactions of the ‘80s and ‘90s. He played a seminal role in the creation of Wall Street’s first major bridge financing, (The $1.2 billion facility for Comcast Corporation), a widely emulated technique which changed the U.S. investment banking business and elevated Merrill Lynch to a leadership position.

Formerly, Mr. Miller was the President and Chief Executive of The Lodestar Group, a merchant bank with important ties to Société Générale, France’s largest private sector bank, which purchased Lodestar in 1993. Mr. Miller founded the Lodestar Group in 1988, when he resigned his position as Vice Chairman of Merrill Lynch Capital Markets. Merrill Lynch rose to the top tier of investment banks, building particularly on innovative financing techniques pioneered by Mr. Miller.

Mr. Miller ran the Merrill Lynch Mergers & Acquisitions Department from 1982 through 1986, growing it into a $200 million per year business. Merrill Lynch Capital Partners (MLCP), a leveraged buyout fund with over $400 million under management, was formed and reported to him during this period. MLCP was the first, in-house fund formed by a bulge bracket investment bank.

Mr. Miller was a Senior Vice President at White Weld at the time White Weld was acquired by Merrill Lynch. Prior to joining White Weld, he was an investment banker at Lehman Brothers. Before coming to Wall Street in 1976, he founded and ran (1971-1976) a venture capital company which invests in Afro-American and other minority businesses, now known as UNC Ventures.

In 1987 Mr. Miller represented National Amusement as Sumner Redstone’s principal financial advisor in the acquisition of Viacom, and from 1987 to 2003 Mr. Miller served as a member of the Board of Directors of that media conglomerate which owns CBS, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Communications, and Blockbuster Entertainment. Mr. Miller has recently served as a Board Member of Intelsat, one of the world’s largest satellite services companies and CNA Surety, one of the largest U.S. companies in the surety business.

Mr. Miller is an active member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He also serves on the Boards of Directors of Global Kids and the International Center for Transitional Justice.
In addition, Mr. Miller is advisor to Contour Venture Partners, a venture capital fund he helped create whose purpose is investing in early stage East Coast businesses.

Mr. Miller received his B.A. with honors from the University of Michigan (1964), M.A. from Yale University (1965 – Chinese Studies), and J.D. from Harvard University (1969). Academic honors include: Phi Beta Kappa, Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship and Yale University Fellowship. Publications include articles on venture capital, economic development, international relations, and the merger market in “The Harvard Journal of Legislation,” “The Business Lawyer,” “The New Republic,” “The Deal” ,“The Nation” and “Fortune.” Mr. Miller speaks French and some Mandarin.

感觉麦肯锡这次行业咨询周瞄准的对象应该是光华管理学院的本科生，而不是MBA学员吧！

原来校外的不能去

深入的SEMINAR一般只对光华学生开放，包括本科生，研究生和MBA。光华有几位常驻的华尔街资深投行家在光华教授各种课程，包括LEHMAN之前的MD，教授MBA，研究生简历写作，瑞信之前MD教授投行和对冲基金课程。这些都是长期常设课程。此外，高盛，麦肯锡，贝恩等每年都在招聘季节来光华组织一系列的介绍投行内部各部门运作，投行，咨询业面试课程。

此外，每年造访光华的各行各业的领头人物数不胜数，譬如，07年底以来，几乎所有投行的中国区主席，如方风雷，刘二飞，张利平，李小加，李一，孙玮，赵竞等都来过光华做演讲。

光华去国际投行的大概20多个，此外包括LAZARD, HLHZ，等M&A boutique，国内中金，中信等就数量倍增了。
