As far as I know, Finance students are required to take micro and econometrics only, even at UMN. But for UMN Finance students, it is a great loss if they skip macro courses there.
If you want to do asset pricing, you will need to take the macro sequance as well at UMN. I was told that only those relatively higher ranked schools hire asset pricing (especially theoretical) graduates. This year even some traditional corporate schools put priority on hiring asset pricing guys. So the macro-finance would be quite attractive. Check this job market star from harvard econ: Ian Martin. I saw from econ wiki that he got offers almost from all top finance departments.
我刚才也withdraw my waitlist from Wharton and Stern了。
So Austin does fail Acc students? I bet it is unusual since I have not heard any Acc student is kicked out. BTW, for placement, it is already very good to find a job at HKUST. The offer from HKUST is extermely high.
As far as I know, UT finance phd's replacements this year resulted in only teaching school, not research school. I just don't know why they reform and still find hard to replace their students ? they gave out 8 offers last year! And I don't think they really need that much! UMN's replacement is improving recently. I guess the persons there are really pushing their students out to the markets.
