这里的proved是被动语态吗，还是与became平行的过去式。

but then后面应该跟完整句子啊，为什么可以省略it was呢

NN们都忙其他的事情去了.我的理解:这里的proved是系动词,与became平行.

while表对比或:当...时候,这里显然都不合适;

两个动作的主语相同,重复主语it多余.

关于fall.查了词典,也就知道fall behind (with/on)sth.,

同意楼上的，prove在这是系动词，不是被动语态。另外补充一点，paying放在its的后面，表明它是名词，所以后面需要一个介词，表示出paying的对象。所以C错了。
