我有两个疑问，一个是E，为什么不行，是语法，还是句意；还有一个就是C和D的区别，有位NN讲

“先看整个句子的谓语：只有一个is , 证明其后跟着的只是一件事，按照C，那么adhere to, beat in unison, and adopt 则有三个谓语，说的是三件事，与前面is 相背，所以beat 与adopt 只能改为非谓语的形式。”这种说法对吗？就我个人感觉that后的从句三个动词原型没什么不妥啊，请教大家，谢过

Here we need to have a contrast. The word "and" is incorrect in the underlined sentence and hence needs to be replaced with something like while/but/yet etc.

你说的那个只有一个is，但是后面三个谓语，不能这样说。is是主句的谓语，管不了从句里的谓语。例如：

What I don't understand is why he did this and how he did it.

有人说: What I don't understand are why he did this and how he did it. 
理由是，只有“主谓一致”，没有“谓表一致”这种说法。回到题目，主语是a peculiar
feature，谓语是is，但是从句里有多少个谓语他们管不了，因为是整个从句一起作表语。你完全可以说A  peculiar feature...is that the cells beat in unison yet adopt specialized...

至于E为什么不行，以及C和D的区别，关键
在于unison和exclusive这两个词。beating in unison是说那些细胞很一致地震动；adopting
specialized orientations exclusive of one
another是说每个细胞都采用一个不同于其他细胞的方向。这两部分的意思明显是一个转折，因此中间不能用and，可以用while或yet，但因为缺
少连词，B是错的，所以只能是D。至于D，beating和adopting同时作为状语存在，同时两者之间又是转折关系。同时E里的even
though也不对，转折是出现在beat和adopt之间，而不是adhere和（beat and adopt）之间。
