There are many factors there. One that makes sense is the new building construction. It boosted Ross's ranking a while ago, but now the construction itself posted many side effects. e.g. Recruiters often had to schedule presentations outside of bschool, which hurt attendance, especially in cold winter days.
One interesting story is about FT's comment on Ross students being arrogant. The comments originated from a Toyota executive, who later was found never recruited at Ross. The dean has filed an investigation on this matter. But at the same time, as the school gets better and better, students got more offers at hand to choose among. Those employers who get rejected will for sure become resentful. And their opinions count more in FT rankings. I guess what matters to you as a prospective is that judging from number of applicants and recruiting results, the student body is getting better and better. So the moral of the story is that once again, one should take rankings with a grain of salt. There for sure will be truthfulness in the rankings, but in the meantime it’s so subjective that no one bears the same standard, even among different rankings themselves. My suggestion to you is to talk to as many current students as possible, so you have a good sense who you’ll spend your precious 2 years of time with. Will you become good friends? Will you have a good time together? Will they help you 10 years down the road, etc etc? Hope this helps. |
