The other day, when I was reading a magazine, I was deeply touched by a motto of Goethe, “you will never have what you like until you learn to like what you have". From my perspective, this great wisdom is true whenever, wherever. Always being unsatisfied is by no means an excellent way to enjoy life, nor an efficient way to keep healthy, and not a shortcut to success.
To enjoy life, it is better to be lighthearted than never unsatisfied. Looking forward is right undoubtedly, but learning to enjoy life at present is more significant. People who always want something new or something different tend to have no ability to appreciate things they already own, such as the beautiful scenery on earth, friendly relationships with associates, stable jobs, warm family. Furthermore, always being unhappy is harmful to people's health. We all have only one chance to live on this wonderful planet, so learning to be thankful for what we already have and treasuring the life at present is the best way to improve our quality of life.
In addition, people who are never satisfied with what they already have are more difficult to succeed. Large amounts of things we own at present are important sources of things we want to possess, if used properly. Unless people like what they have and learn to use them in the right way, they will face a harder way to success. What is more, people who are never satisfied with their possessions are likely to have lower spirits, which disables them to work efficiently. For instance, a person may make abundant mistakes because he is thinking how to obtain a job with higher salary while he is working. Hence, under no circumstances should we ignore things we already have. Concentrating on the present work is far better than live under the illusion.
Some people may argue that wanting something new or different is a strong drive for people. This is certainly true, given the assumption that these people are not always displeased with what they already have, are able to enjoy life, and use what they have to acquire what they want.
Consequently, we had better appreciate what we have and not always desire something new or different. It is not only of significant importance to our quality of life, but also a path along which we can succeed more easily.
