C选项的结构我觉得是这样的：Josephine Baker made Paris her home  long before  to be an expatriate was fashionable,  虽然我说不出有明显的语法错误，可就是很不好理解，很冗长，不符合简洁，准确的原则。

谢谢楼上的解释。关于这题还有一点吃不准的地方，关于正确选项D，Long before it...，这个it应该是指代Paris吧。

如果按这样理解的话，D选项中to be an expatriate was fashionable是做定语修饰Paris吗？那岂不和原意违背了，应该是绝对错误，而不应该是简单的awkward吧？

it 不是指的Paris, 而是to be an expatriate。It’s + adj. + to do sth. 表示“做某事……”，其中it为形式主语，真正的主语为句中的动词不定式(短语)。当动词不定式(短语)作主语且较长时，为了避免句子“头重脚轻”，多用该句式
