Does human activity improve or damage the earth (29)

 

You may appreciate it that science has made extraordinary progress in human society and that it contributes so much to convenience of lives. But have you ever wonder how much we have done to damage the earth, our home, on the other hand? The decline in the forest area and the pollution in the water system as well as in air conditon show us definitely that the earth is badly hurt; the earth is crying!

  Hardly anyone around me have notice that the city we live in was once a green forest with a blue sky above and clear rivers crowing though. I can imagine when the early human have had the ability of leading comparatively safe lives, they were dreaming of building a huge comfortable habitat. So they began to shatter the forest in order to have the houses raised to the sky, streets extended in every directions, and villages and cities been born. Today the terrible situation is that we are still cutting trees to make chopsticks and furniture. It is impossible to make the widest guess at how many trees drop down on the ground every day, but it is obviously in a tremendous speed. How can we praise ourselves that we are improving the earth while actually we are spoiling her lung?

  I miss the lovely river outside of my home yard ten years ago when we washed clothing in it and take water from it to make meals everyday. I remember that there was a time when I can see the fish twisting their bodies in the clear water and sweeping the mud at the bottom of the river searching for food. I found it a great interesting pastime when floating on the water in the evenings after a day’s work. But I wonder whether I will get serious infection if I swim in it at present day; they have all turned into splendid memories. Instead of beening clear water, what in the river is black and green, smelly and dirty liquids. I extremely doubt human’s sense of responsibility as we pull all the dirt in to the blood of earth to keep our houses clean.

  And air pollution also takes place. Streets are filled with petrol fumes and toxic gases; dust prevent the glorious sunlight’s descending. My friends always go in to raptures when they catch sight of a little bit of stars shinning the sky, intoxicated in the slight light. Even this can not be a dolefull fact?

  We can see what we have actually done to the earth, the ‘mother’ of all livings. It has always been a mystry to me, why some city dwellers, who have observed all these changes, obstinately indicate that mankind have improved the envirenment of the earth.
