26. “Location has traditionally been one of the most important determinants of a business’s success. The importance of location is not likely to change, no matter how advanced the development of computer communications and others kinds of technology becomes.”

Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion stated above. Support your views with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.

For some industries, the argument is right to claim that location is the most important factor that will determine whether they will be successful. But along with the advanced technologies, situation has changed for others. It is cursory that the argument states that the role of location will never change no matter how advanced new technologies become.

First, nowadays there are some digital products that can be easily accessed from far away without any limitation. Customers can learn the whole picture of the product through Internet. We can buy from the Internet, pay by E-bank and the products will be delivered efficiently. The location of the company is not so important for selling such kind of products. We have had many successful precedents: Dell, the apple music store. Along with the more and more advanced technologies, more and more customers accept the new buying style. Location will be less and less important.

Admittedly, location is important for some industries such as cloth and cosmetics. Customers would like to come in the store and try the products whether they are satisfied with the size, color or the real appearance with the products and shopping sometimes is a kind of leisure itself. A store with a good location will attract more customers and does well in its business. But even such kind of business, the situation has changed someway. Taobao.com is a good example. Now in China many young customers would like to purchase from the Internet. There is no difference for the customers whether a virtual store is located in Shanghai or in Tibet.

In final analysis, the statement correctly indicates that location is quite important for industries but fails to realize that its importance will fade when new technology comes out.
