Study Plan

I am ###, male, born on the #####. To realize my dream of becoming an excellent chemical engineer, I chose to pursue professional knowledge in Applied Chemistry in Chongqing University, China. During my four years of undergraduate studies, I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Chemistry, and I successfully progressed into graduate studies as a master student in Chongqing
                University
, exempting from taking entrance examination because of my good performance during my undergraduate studies. After three years of graduate studies specializing in Applied Chemistry (My Research orientation is Electrochemistry), I acquired relevant research experience and developed a strong research interest in electrochemistry. I am confident that all of these relevant experiences will contribute positively to my graduate studies at University of Calgary. I am sure that this study plan can provide you an outline of my plan for three years of graduate studies in Canada and my subsequent career development in China.

Now, I have received the admission offer of a Ph. D program from the University of Calgary, my research will be in the general specialization area of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, and my research orientation is Electrochemical Corrosion and Pipeline Protecting. Canada’s education system is famous both for academic reputation and international recognized. The University of Calgary is a truly global institution, she have academic and research linkages in over 90 countries around the world and are actively engaged in international development projects in areas of need. The research influence of University of Calgary is ranked among the top ten Universities in Canada, particularly in national reputation and in student’s satisfaction. My future supervisor Dr. Frank Cheng is a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering of University of Calgary, I Knew Prof. Cheng in a lecture when he visited Chongqing
                University
.
He is an excellent scholar in Electrochemistry and interweaves the electrochemistry and materials science into the excellent integrated research program.

Moreover, his innovative idea and serious attitude also attract me deeply. I feel that these attributes, combined with a profound interest in the Electrochemical Corrosion and Pipeline Protecting, I am sure that my study under his supervision will be of great benefit to my career development.

I hope I can become a distinguished chemical engineer and researcher after successfully finishing my doctor’s program at University of Calgary under the supervision of Prof. Cheng. In addition to acquiring advanced research skills and methodologies in Electrochemical Corrosion and Pipeline Protecting, following the latest developments in the international academic community, and developing the ability for independent research, I also want to develop a character which will allow me to enter society with full confidence upon my graduation. If I am given the opportunity, I am sure I will achieve my goal by the time.

University of Calgary’s famous study facilities and distinguished faculty have attracted me deeply. The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering is a famous one at University of Calgary. Studying in this department will be very helpful for my further work. As an international student, the available financial support of graduate students at University of Calgary is also an important factor when choosing a university for further study. I have obtained full financial scholarship in the amount of $22,000 per annum, since  the tuition fee is $11170 per year for international student in University of Calgary, this amount should be sufficient to cover all my expenses considering my thrift habit. In addition, my parents and family members are very supportive and will give me financial assistance in Canada. In their mind, education is the best investment and the best gift they can give to their child. When it comes to Chinese Ph. D programs, firstly, it would charge me RMB 9000 per year with rare financial assistant; secondly, the level of research as a whole remains relatively low, and exchanges within the international academic community are deficient. As a result, graduate students in China cannot keep up with the leading fields of science; additionally, in China, one supervisor usually supervises about a dozen graduate students, which limits the amount of interaction between the supervisor and each student. In conclusion, with full financial support from University of Calgary, it is rational for me to choose University of Calgary instead of Chinese universities.

After obtaining Doctor’s Degree from Canada, I plan to come back to China without hesitation. There are several reasons contribute to this. The most important one is my family. It is my responsibility to support my parents since my brother worked in another province far from my hometown, and my parents have spent all of their savings on my education. I plan to repay my dear parents with my outstanding achievements and my excellent care of them in their late years. Additionally, what I will study in Canada mainly focus on how to protect petroleum/gas pipelines from corrosion, which was rarely researched in most institutes and universities in China, but with the fast development of energy source industry, Chinese government spend a great amount of money to construct petroleum/gas pipelines all over the country, especially in southwest and northeast. So the person who specializes in pipeline corrosion protection is very desirable in China.

Finally, China has enacted many policies to support talents who have had an education overseas and to create opportunities for them to develop their own enterprises, plus there are many academic and social advantages for them. In these circumstances, most of the leading professionals in Electrochemical Corrosion and Pipeline Protecting have been trained in western countries. Through Doctor’s program, I am confident that I will become an excellent researcher with advanced knowledge and expertise in professional knowledge, fluent English, and strong research ability. I can deploy my talents, go far in my ambition and realize my aspirations on a most vibrant stage in China. For these reasons, my future Canadian degree will certainly increase my chances in the Chinese labor market and a better chance of achieving my goals in China.

Respectful officer, It will be highly appreciated that if I can get the visa to Canada for further study, which I believe is the first step to approach my goal, I will treasure this opportunity, make every effort to improve myself. I look forward to my application being assessed and approved at your earliest convenience. Thank you very much.
