it 指的是 Listeria bacterium

listeriosis 指的是 the disease

題意：listeriosis 這個病影響了一些人卻饒過了(spare)其他人

(A) it = Listeria bacterium ，題目講的是 the disease影響一些人，而後面接病毒饒過一些人，感覺不大對，影響＆饒過的主詞應該是相同的，即 listeriosis = the disease

(B) it 的問題同(A)

(C) despite 即使，the disease 影響一些人，即使饒過一些人，句意不通，且有違反由輕到重的原則。

(D) when 正當，the disease 影響一些人，正當饒過一些人，句意不通。

(E) while 然而，the disease 影響一些人，然而卻饒過其他人。句意較通順。

不知這樣解釋合不合理？

这里while后面省略了it is,所以成了while sparing的形式。Listeriosis是离它最近的the disease的同位语

楼上的，您说while 后面省略了it is似乎不够严谨。

因为it其实是指代前面的bacterium的，正是这个it指代，是排除A的关键。

所以我认为while后面应该说省略了 disease.

从句子的意思来看，这里的while应该是然而的意思，表示转折，但是while作为转折的时候，主语和谓语是不能省略的。
所以我觉得E肯定是不对的。
