Thanks!

Hi nnm,

you mentioned earlier that it's not easy (or common) for Chinese graduates to find a consulting job in Europe, but there are plenty of  industry jobs. Could you specify what those jobs are? what kind of position are normally available for Chinese MBA graduates, who doesn't speak much French?

Thanks in advance.

If someone else has answer to the question, your reply will be greatly appreciated!

If you are looking for an industry job in France and don't speak French, then there are no jobs for you.  Regardless of which European country you are considering, for whatever types of jobs (industry, consulting or banking), it's important for you to know the local language - unless you are considering a job in a country that uses English as a commercial language, ie, Netherlands and Switzerland.  I have been offered, or close to getting an offer, in those countries without knowing how to speak Dutch or German or French or Italian.  But I think this is possible because both Netherlands and Switzerland uses English as one of the official/commercial languages.

In my year and previous, there are a few instances where Chinese students found consulting jobs in France.  One was with the new Paris office of McKinsey Asia house, and the other two were with a well known local French consulting company.  In the firs case, the student underwent intensive French training anyway before starting the job (and this is after he passed his French 3rd language test at INSEAD).

Hope this helps.

Remember, the bigger the brand, the cheaper they are! (And I can say that cause I used to work for L'Oreal). I believe the scholarship varies a little from year to year. It'll probably cover around half of the annual tuition. In one year, where they chose 2 winners, the winners had to share the scholarship.

INSEAD has been my dream school ever since I've got my bachelor degree in 2004, because I believe that INSEAD's unique environment and reputation is exactly what I am looking for.

However, I am concerning about my own background, if thinking about Jan 2010.

1) I am Hong Kong SAR citizen
2) I graduated in 2004 - University of Hawaii, GPA 2.9
3) I studied abroad from 1997 to 2004, total 7.5 years
4) GMAT 690.
5) I did my first job as a sales & marketing assistance manager (2 years), based in Dong Guan China in manufacturing field, in charge of American, European and Japanese market.
6) I am currently working for a Japanese company (in HK) as a sales executive, in charge of Taiwan, Philippine, Vietnam and Cambodia market.  By the time I am admitted (Jan 2010, if I can), I will have total 4.5 years of w/e.
7) I will have my company president, who knows me very well, to write a recommandation letter for me.
8) I speak fluent Mandarin, English, and proficient Japanese

Please kindly advise if my chance is high, and which area I should be focusing on in order to increase my possibility.

you definitely meet the basic requirements needed for applying to INSEAD. But i think it would be irresponsible of any of us to judge how likely you will succeed based on these basic facts. Besides, competition varies from year to year. So it's hard to give a percentage. But I think it's important for you to ask yourself whether you have the type of global perspective (not just experience) that INSEAD is looking for, and if you do, it's critical that you thoroughly bring it out in your essay. This is where your words (and not your grades) will speak volumes. Good luck.

想请教一下,Insead的essay字数一般需要控制很严吗?他家的论文要求特别短,很多内容可能表达不清楚,但是我看网上很多的sample essay都超了30%都不只。不知道大家怎么看这个问题。

I can guarantee you that the admissions staff does NOT count the number of words first before deciding to read your essay or not.  The point is, they process tons of essays every admission period, if you can't manage to stir their interest or explain yourself within the first or by the second paragraph, then you risk boring them and losing their interest in you.  It's like reading a novel, if the first page is boring, then you probably don't have the urge to continue.

Be succint and make your point!
