1. By merging its two publishing divisions, the company will increase their share of the country’s $21 billion book market from 6 percent to 10 percent, a market ranging from obscure textbooks to mass-market paperbacks.

  1. their share of the country’s $21 billion book market from 6 percent to 10 percent, a market ranging

  2. from 6 percent to 10 percent its share of the $21 billion book market in the country, which ranges

  3. to 10 percent from 6 percent in their share of the $21 billion book market in the country, a market ranging

  4. in its share, from 6 percent to 10 percent, of the $21 billion book market in the country, which ranges

  5. to 10 percent from 6 percent its share of the country’s $21 billion book market, which ranges (我选择A,但是答案是 E)

A 里用了their,应该是its, company是单数。CD里用了in its share,应该是its share,因为its share做了increase的直接宾语。

2.  The 32 species that make up the dolphin family are closely related to whales and in fact include the animal known as the killer whale, which can grow to be 30 feet long and is famous for its aggressive hunting pods.

  1. include the animal known as the killer whale, which can grow to be 30 feet long and is

  2. include the animal known as the killer whale, growing as big as 30 feet long and

  3. include the animal known as the killer whale, growing up to 30 feet long and being

  4. include the animal known as the killer whale, which can grow as big as 30 feet long and is

  5. include the animal known as the killer whale, which can grow to be 30 feet long and it is  (我选择D, 答案 A)

C里up和to重复。 E里it is错了。

3. Soaring television costs accounted for more than half the spending in the presidential campaign of 1992, a greater proportion than it was in any previous election.

  1. a greater proportion than it was

  2. a greater proportion than

  3. a greater proportion than they have been

Television costs are a agreater proportion in the presidential compaign of 1992 than they have been in any previous election.

4. That twenty-one ceramic dog figurines were discovered during the excavating of a 1,000-year-old Hohokam village in Tempe, Arizona, has nearly doubled the number of these artifacts known to exist.

  1. That twenty-one ceramic dog figurines were discovered during the excavating

  2. Twenty-one ceramic dog figurines discovered at the excavation

  3. Discovering twenty-one ceramic dog figurines at the excavating

  4. Ceramic dog figurines, twenty-one of which were discovered during excavating

  5. The discovery of twenty-one ceramic dog figurines during the excavation

5. To develop more accurate population forecasts, demographers have to know a great deal more than now about the social and economic determinants of fertility.

  1. have to know a great deal more than now about the social and economic

  2. have to know a great deal more than they do now about the social and economical

  3. would have to know a great deal more than they do now about the social and economical

  4. would have to know a great deal more than they do now about the social and economic

  5. would have to know a great deal more than now about the social and economical

6. Retail sales rose 8/10 of 1 percent in August, intensifying expectations that personal spending in the July-September quarter more than doubled that of the 1.4 percent growth rate in personal spending for the previous quarter.

  1. that personal spending in the July-September quarter more than doubled that of

  2. that personal spending in the July-September quarter would more than double

  3. of personal spending in the July-September quarter, that it more than doubled

  4. of personal spending in the July-September quarter, more than doubling that of

  5. of personal spending in the July-September quarter, that it would more than double that of

ADE里的that of不对,因为如果是that of 1.4 percent growth rate,前面对应的必定personal expenditure of xxx percent growth rate,两者没法形成double关系,原文是说growth rate double。 E里的it也不对,it指代expectation。

7. Antarctica receives more solar radiation than does any other place on Earth, yet the temperatures are so cold and the ice cap is reflective, so that little polar ice melts during the summer; otherwise, the water levels of the oceans would rise 250 feet and engulf most of the world’s great cities.

  1. is reflective, so that little polar ice melts during the summer; otherwise,

  2. is so reflective that little of the polar ice melts during the summer; were it to do so,

  3. so reflective that little polar ice melts during the summer, or else

  4. reflective, so that little of the polar ice melts during the summer, or

  5. reflects so that little of the polar ice melts during the summer; if it did

只有B跟原文完全平行:the temperatures are so cold and the ice cap is so reflective that。。。

8. Possible long-term consequences of the “greenhouse effect,” the gradual warming of the Earth’s climate, may include melting the polar ice caps and a rising sea level.

  1. may include melting the polar ice caps and a rising sea level

  2. may include the melting of polar ice caps and the rising sea level

  3. may include polar ice caps that are melting and sea levels that are rising

  4. include melting the polar ice caps and sea levels that are rising

  5. include melting of the polar ice caps and a rise in sea level

9. On account of a law passed in 1993, making it a crime punishable by imprisonment that a United States citizen hold gold in the form of bullion or coins, immigrants found that on arrival in the United States they had to surrender all of the gold they had brought with them.

  1. On account of a law passed in 1993, making it a crime punishable by imprisonment that a United States citizen hold

  2. With a law passed in 1933 that makes it a crime punishable by imprisonment that a United States citizen hold

  3. A law passed in 1933 that made it a crime punishable by imprisonment for a United States citizen holding

  4. Because of a law passed in 1933 making it a crime punishable by imprisonment for a United States citizen to hold

  5. Due to a law being passed in 1933 that makes it a crime punishable by imprisonment for a United States citizen to hold

because of 优于on account of 的表达,所以是D。

make it a crime that a US citizen hold gold 和 make it a crime for a US citizen to hold gold是可以相互转换的,都对。

10. Retailers reported moderate gains in their November sales, as much because of their sales of a year earlier being so bad as that shoppers were getting a head start on buying their holiday gifts.

  1. of their sales of a year earlier being so bad as that

  2. of their sales a year earlier having been as bad as because

  3. of their sales a year earlier being as bad as because

  4. their sales a year earlier had been so bad as because

  5. their sales of a year earlier were as bad as that

前半句是as much because, 后半句必须是as because。
