8.4:agree or disagree: 20 years from now, students are no longer using the printed books.
As a high school student, I have to carry a bunch of books to school everyday, including maths, English, chemistry, physics, etc. Currently, to me, the most annoying problem is undoubtly my heavy bag. I definitely believe that it is very possible to achieve that printed books are no longer used
Currently, computers are widely used around the world, and they have already taken the place of many traditional media. Compared to the newspaper and books, computers have much more merits. Printed books are too heavy to carry, if one have to write an essay on biology, he has to go to the library to search for all kinds of books related, and carry those he need back. However, If one use computer to log in the website of the National Library, he will easily find the reference books he need and can have a glance at them just by clicking the bottoms’ if electronic textbooks can take the place of printed ones, students will not have to bring with their schoolbags every day, and scientists must have realized this point
Environmentally, printed books cost a great deal of paper, and paper is originated from the trees. In recent years, many countries are suffering from the damages of floods and sandstorms. The main cause of the disasters are the excessive deforestation by human being. People cut down these woods to manufacture paper. After suffered from the damages, people has realized that we should know how to utilize the internet source rather than reference books. More and more authors started to publish their new books through their blogs and personal websites because this not only can reduce the cost but also attract more readers. With this trend, all the students, in my perspective, will use computers instead of their textbooks no more than several years
On the other hand, the most prominent difference between books and computers is that books are more difficult to preserve. Millions of old books have been destroyed by fire in Ming dynasty of China. As a consequence, we can hardly know the people’s culture and life directly in that period of time.Instead; we can only guess them by reading the literature in the following dynasties. Let me talk about my own experience, once I bought several novels from the bookstore, however when I got home, I found my books left on the taxi and I did not take the invoice. How frustrated I was! It took me a whole afternoon to pick these books in that distant bookstore and I at last waste all my efforts. And students are more likely to lose stuff, when their textbooks, which contain their notes lost, it will cost not only time but also money and efforts to make up the loss
From the reasons above, we can see that printed books are no longer popular among the students, and they are all surrounded by electronic appliances. So electronic books will definitely come soon to the needs of the students and bring them a new way of learning. |
