topic : It has been said, " not everything that is learned is contained in books." Compare and contrast knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from the books. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why? A multitude of people live under the illusion that experiences from yourself and other people are more crucial than the knowledge obtain from the book because they may have excellent grandpas who constantly provide them with some knowledgeable advices. However, that may not happen on everyone such as me, who could get into rapture just by a mere mention of computer but none of the people surrounding me have any idea about what is C++. Therefore, from my perspectives, I strongly oppose to the opinion that is stated at the beginning and I will elaborate and defend my position with concrete evidence.
The most incomparable advantage of learning from book is the guaranteed accuracy. For one thing, the print in the book is definite and invariable, with no prefix like “I think”, or “I feel like”, but just solid sentences. For another, book would offer you an access to the reputable and trustable statistics, graph and chart which one would never wish to obtain from someone’s experience. Accordingly, I prefer book knowledge to personal experience in my studying.
Another conspicuous advantage from relying on book knowledge is its consistent thorough demonstration of the one controversial issue. Seldom can anyone cover every facet of one problem when they are exclaiming their personal experience due to the contemporary environment and their mental functions which subject to human memory process. Oppositely, the writers who write the books have sufficient time to thoughtfully consider the problem and effectively and thoroughly answer the question. For instance, in the past, the knowledge I have about Geometry is from my brother and he told me that it is a subject about shapes, and lines, but nothing in more detailed level. Hence, I am ardent in mathematics and I eventually figure out that Geometry is a subject that involved complicated mathematic calculation related to dimension, area, volume, and curvature graph and is commonly used in many industrial manufactory. Consequently, my confidence in book knowledge is consolidated even more.
The people who attach more importance to personal experiences possibly argue that personal experiences are the knowledge that have been implemented in the reality and have considerable amount of value for individuals who have not acquired the opportunity to explore the issue deeply. And the vivid demonstrations of personal experience stimulate the passion of the learners, and the same effect would not be achieved by compelling them cramming the words in a book. Hence they suggest that personal experiences play a more important role in the process of learning.
The position above seem have some logic, but does not hold the water. The essential elements that are required in the process of learning contain not only the vivid demonstration of the problem, but also the definite and professional understanding in a special field. On the other hand, the book today usually published with delicate cover and colorful illustrations which counteracts the point that book are tedious in the previous paragraph. Moreover, book knowledge is virtually another form of personal experience which recorded from the specialists from certain fields and would be considered more credible than orally told experiences from people’s friends.
In a final analysis, book knowledge has demonstrates its superior advantages over personal experience in considerations of the accuracy, thoroughness, and credibility. Why some people would credit personal experience than do for book knowledge is indeed beyond me. |
