问一下,一些前面加pre-的词语和原来不加pre-的意思或用法有区别么??
比如:predominante/predominate VS dominant/dominate
preoccupy VS occupy
preeminent VS eminent

pre是加强程度的
pre-is used to form words that indicate that something takes place before a particular date, period, or event
它用在形容词,动词的前面,要么是表示在...之前,要么就是给原来的词加强程度。
比如:
eminent是杰出的(在事业上),preeminent(实际上是pre-eminent)意思也是杰出的,但是,因为有一个pre,所以pre-eminent语气更强。

但是,preoccupy一般用于人身上,意思类似于中文中的:某个事物占据了某人的心
比如:恐惧占据了他的心, his heart was preoccupied with fear.
好像也听人用过:
His mind is fully occupied by various requests in mess.
occupy和preoccupy本来就是意思相近的。
不过preoccuopy最好用在人上。
