其他的部分都没有问题，只是正确答案C中的as many as there were
让人费解，为什么不是there was,而一定要用there were呢？there were 后面也没有任何提示表明需要用复数或虚拟语气Y。
请高人指点！

从这道题的5个选项中，首先可以排除掉D,E; 根据并列的对称性，there is.... there are 同属 there be 结构，是对称的。又根据固定搭配as many as, ....than....是不可以混用的，因此A, B错. 只剩下选项C了，再来看这个选项，会注意到知识点 there be 的单复数问题。 抽出句子主干　there is....one microcomputer...., four times as many as there were four years ago.　会发现 there is  对应　one microcomputer　是正确的．比较的对应项是４年以前的事，因此用过去时态．但是此选项there be 后面的部分省略了(for example: as many as there were four microcomputers for 130 students)，所以无从判断，可是以上信息足以判断出 C is ETS preferred relative correct answer.

这题还真硬掰    orgiginal:     there were (every 128 pupils for one computer) four years ago             (括弧內is old information should be omitted)     --> there were four years ago.

偶同意BUNNIER的观点 因为这样的省略符合语法的 这里的省略是微机和前面的正好对应 所以用there were.

这题又想不同了，为什么OG解释E选项时说Choices D and E reorder and garble the “one X...” construction, making four times as many refer illogically to pupils. 为什么不是就近修饰microcomputer呢？谢谢大家！

In A, are does not agree with the subject, one microcomputer; furthermore, in A, B, and D, than is used where as is required. Choices D and E reorder and garble the “one X...” construction, making four times as many refer illogically to pupils.
