俺对There is no way around the fact that
containers, shelters, and supporters must be functional.读不懂。前边讲根据功能分3类，咋下句就笔锋一转说这3类不一定有功能呢？？？！！！！

紧接的下边一句就更不懂The applied arts are thus bound by the law of physics....
砸就thus 了呢？前后没有因果关系呀

这是篇典型的半懂不懂文，求求大家帮助哦。。。。。。

这篇文章是讲applied arts 和fine arts的.你问的那句话是说applied art按功能分的.三类.

container, shelter, supports. 而反过来说,这三类的东东不一定就有功能性. 就是说其它的arts(比如fine arts)也可以这么分.

后面又讲了所以applied arts are bound by the law of physics.后面说了一堆

就是想讲它和FINE ARTS的difference(见第2大段).

哈哈，这样一说通了。
说白了就是applied art并非都功能性。和fine art比也就比一样，一个是去适应材料一个是克服材料。对吧。
哎，就是这样的弱点，很容易就别EST的文章转晕进去了。

我把原来的话变成自己话，不知看了是否明白。

第一句话

主要是说

According to the materials that is used to build craft and mental that we think of what the crafts is made for, we divide crafts a lot of kinds.

第二句

Approaching crafts from the point of view of function, we can divide them into simple categories: containers, shelters, and supports.

这句是 Acording the function of the crafts, we divide the crafts into containers, shelters ,and supports.

第三句

 There is no way around the fact that containers, shelters, and supporters must be functional。

是 It is no doubt that containers, shelters, and  supporter must be functional.
