创业经验有用嘛？

有国内工作经验1年，然后美国master毕业在北美500强公司的headquater做software engineer 2年，但是同时也有创业经验2年，和朋友合伙开了个公司，前景不错，这种工作经验能弥补我做engineer的business背景不够强的问题吗？如果gmat考到750左右，gpa本科3。6，master 3.9,有希望申请到top10的mba吗？最近听说engineer背景的一般都要5－7年工作经验，因为这样他们才相信你已经有机会接触到business领域。以我的性格，实在不希望再做engineer了。

I believe it's not how long you've worked but what you did with that time that matters.  Schools are not expecting accomplished leaders but students with leadership potential.  Sounds like you have already had exposure to the business world.  It's for you to show what you learned from that experience.  Good luck!

You should take the GMAT soon if you plan to apply this year.

公司才刚刚看出个眉目，但是我的主要背景还是engineer，2年的时间，不可能担当什么leader的职务，尤其是在这种大公司。所以我很担心这一块，对于leadership potential,还是比较有信心的，毕竟公司从无到有，一分分耕耘，多少有点经验，我比较担心自己创业这种背景，尤其还是刚开始阶段，能否有代表性，能否有很强的说服力？这个正式工作和自己的创业怎么才能结合的很好呢？正式工作的工作年限不够长是我的weakness，主要是想用创业经历来弥补，但是不知道委员会会不会看我们这种小打小闹的经营，如果创业那么有用，不是每个人都可以自己去干点什么，不管成功也好，失败也好。。。不好意思，我这么说并不是打击自己，而是自己想到的weakness，希望牛人给看看。多谢

If you think need to work for the other companies, you may choose the MBA. If you want to work for your own company, the MBA is not really needed. Most of the most successful entrepreneurs are not MBA.

Probably it depends on the scale of your start-up. If you have employees (even temporary) it will be a good example to prove your leadership. If your customers are some big MNCs then even if the project scale in dollar is small you can still emphasize on your business development part, i.e. developed several key accounts including Microsoft blur blur. Whatever it is, I believe there must be something interesting to the adcom that you can dig out from your start-up experience. In addition, the fact that you are starting a business in parallel with your full-time job itself is a good proof of your entrepreneurship motivation, and the ability to perform in two jobs of different nature further proves your capacity. I think it does compensate your short working experience in the application, as long as you align it well with your MBA study and your future career plan.

1.yes,it helps. But we are not sure about how much it would be unless you can reflex these on your other materials in the application package, essay,for example. 

2.Experience is not something such as title, leader position,or whatever. However, it is something is genuine, something could be shown as true story, and something what you really need.

3.Based on your application condition, your experience will have influence on your adcoms by so far. School is looking for someone who is really interested in the program and who is suitable for the program the shool set. As YaoYao said, schools are seraching who has the leadship protential; you can express such leadship as influence in what you did,what you write, and what you said. Your start-up experience in your own business will help you so far but it depends on your personal style. Just outstanding yourself and making the schools known that you are the one who they are looking for.

I think your entrepreneurial experience will certainly help for your MBA application. The question is how you can represent your diversified exposure in different areas and combine then altogether well.

The schools are always looking for someone with innovation thoughts. Founding your own business, especially, is one of the best ways to show your leadership and creative thinking.
