B6. The following appeared in a letter from a part-owner of a small retail clothing chain to her business partner:

“Commercial real estate prices have been rising steadily in the Sandida Heights neighborhood for several years, while the prices in the adjacent neighborhood of Palm Grove have remained the same. It seems obvious, then, that a retail space in Sandida Heights must now be much more expensive than a similar space in Palm Grove, which was not the case several years ago. So, it appears that retail spaces in Sandida Heights are now overpriced relative to those in Palm Grove. Therefore, it would be in our financial interest to purchase a retail space in Palm Grove rather than in Sandida Heights.”

我觉得这段话的缺陷主要有以下几个：

1. 过去的状况在现在和将来都不变。第一句话中有个词是several years，第二句话马上说 must now。过去高并不代表现在就高。

2. 比较性错误。文章开头并没有提到两个地方房价的实际价格，只是说一个涨一个始终保持同等水平，因此无法说明SH的房价就一定比PG的高。

3. 范围缩小。即使确定说SH现在的价格就是比PG高，也不能代表两个地方具体一个可类比的位置的房价SH就比PG高。这里的价格高可以是个平均值。

4. 现在的状况在将来不变。最后一句话，即使现在PG比SH低，并不代表未来PG比SH低。

5. 非必然因果关系。Therefore之前的推论过程都存在着缺陷，必然也无法推出最后一句的结果。

以上是我的考虑。请楼主参考。

1. the rate of increasing price is higher does not mean the price is higer(unwarranted assumption)

2. even the price of real estate is higher does not mean the price of the retail space is higer(misapplied generalization)

3. the price of retail space is not only necessary reason to claim the overpricing (oversimplification)

4. the lower price of retail space does not mean financial interest(oversimplification)
