The New Year is a time for resolutions. Mentally(这里是一个用副词来表示方面的典范.很多时候当我们想要表示一个东西在某个方面怎么样的时候,我们都会忽视还可以用副词来表达.比如:His body is strong.他身体很强健.如果用副词来限定<身体>这个概念,这个句子就可以改为:He is strong, physically. 这样的表达就比his body is strong高级了很多, 所以希望大家以后可以借鉴.), at least, most of us could compile formidable(formidable是一个大家应该常用的词汇:formidable一是可以表示很困难的,二可以表示令人生畏的,词汇本身比较高级,被使用的频率不高,所以formidable是可以显示出你词汇水平的词) lists of ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’(ATTENTION:文章这里告诉了我们应该怎么说<该做的和不该做的>这个概念). The same old favorites recur year in year out(year in year out年复一年的地道说法,同时可以改编为:day in day out天复一天,我们就可以用day in day out在某些情况下替换every day) with monotonous regularity(很好的用词,意思是:单调乏味的规律.当你想要说:生活很无聊呀,每天都是一些相同的事情,就可以说:So tedious is life that the same things recur day in day out with monotonous regularity. 这个句子很好很好,里边提及的东西也相当有用,当你写作的时候你就会体会到了). We resolve(decide的替换词) to get up earlier each morning ,eat less, find more time to play with(play with这个短语要小心使用:play with往往是有身体接触的.如果说: I played with my buddies yesterday.字面上是我昨天在和我的好朋友们一起玩,但实际上的意思是:我昨天和我的朋友们摸来摸去,汗…谨慎使用,谨慎使用) the children, do a thousand and one(用数字的夸张来替换many这个概念,这个大家也应该在自己的写作中多多尝试) jobs about the house, be nice to the people we don’t like, drive carefully, and take the dog for a walk every day(这是一个长句,但是却很简单,几乎就是将一系列的东西列出来.那些担心自己写长句出错的朋友们可以借鉴这个句子,用并列的方式加长句子). Past experience has taught us(<经验告诉我们>,这个说法大家一定要掌握) that certain accomplishments are beyond attainment(这个短语实际来自:attain accomplishments, attain在这里的意思和achieve实际上是一样的,但是使用attain避免了和别人的重复.还要强调的是beyond这个词,当我们要表示<超过>,或者<难理解>这类概念的时候,就可以用beyond.). If we remain inveterate smokers(这样的写法是值得背下来的), it is only because we have so often experienced(experience,经历,这个单词建议多用) the frustration that results from(result from是be caused的一个很好的替换,建议大家多用) failure. Most of us fail in our efforts at self-improvement because our schemes are too ambitious and we never have time to carry them out(carry out,执行,避免了用do这样的词汇.这个句子很好,但是我却很难找到合适的解释来说它为什么好,这样的句子更应该背下来). We also make the fundamental error(低级的错误) of announcing our resolutions to everybody so that(so that在这里表明<这样一来>这个意思,大家在作文中表示联系的时候可以常用) we look even more foolish when we slip back(回到,这里用了slip,很生动) into our bad old ways. Aware of(aware of的意思其实就是know,但是know显得太普通,所以这里建议使用be aware of或者be unaware of来表示知道/不知道) these pitfalls, this year I attempted to(attempt to有want to和try to的双重意思,大家可以在适合的情况下多用这个词汇,绝对比want to和try to的效果好得多) keep my resolutions to myself(keep sth to oneself就是keep it a secret的意思.我个人认为前者更好,因为它没有用秘密这个词却表示了保密这个概念). I limited myself to two modest ambitions(这个句子太好了:limit, modest, ambition这3个词汇用得极端的好.modest是合适的,ambition却是野心的意思,modest ambition就是适当的,适中的野心,但是野心怎么可以用modest来形容呢?-这里用一对很矛盾的概念暗示了后文的内容,同时流露出一种自我讽刺的味道,如果大家的写作水平提升到了很高的境界,就可以尝试这种看似矛盾的修饰方法): to do physical exercises every morning and to read more of an evening(of an evening避免了和前面every重复的every evening,值得借鉴). An all-night party on New Year’s Eve provided me with a good excuse for not carrying our either of these new resolutions on the first day of the year, but on the second, I applied myself assiduously(assiduously就是hard-working的意思,但是更高级,更有水平) to the task. |
