Good examples!

I thought that    we could conclude that 'distinguish A from B' is used between things in the same catogaries, for example, good paintings and bad paintings, addictive drugs and nonaddictive drugs, etc, while 'distinguish between A and B' applies to a comparison between things in different catogaries, for example, mood swings and depressive psychosis.     But, Longmen has counterexamples:

distinguish between
His attorney argued that Cope could not distinguish between right and wrong.
distinguish somebody/something from
a method of distinguishing cancer cells from normal tissue

Let's discussion!
