LZ所在的学校是Boston College吧 很不错啊 从这个学校再申请 应该可以申请到Top10了吧

By the way, are you a phd student at Marshall? Is it possible or how could I get some idea of the backgrounds of the admitted finance phd students this year? I checked USC's website, althought there are a couple of Chinese students, they are 3rd year or 4th year...it seems no Chinese student went to USC last year...I would like to compare their backgrounds with mine to gauge my chance...

You are very welcome. I don't think there is any Chinese student in the 2nd-year cohort, but they did take in a guy from Taiwan last year. If I remember correctly, he got his BA from a top 30 university in the U.S. and master's from NYU. He also worked for a few years before got into the program. Although he did his undergrad in the States, he came to the States at a relatively late age and thus still speaks very fluent Mandarin. Hope this helps.

It depends on the weight of your "family issue". If we don't consider family factor, I will support that you stay in your current school because USC might be only marginally better than it.

But for family reason you HAVE TO go to the west coast, it worths that. I believe career is only part of your life and you do want a balance between your family and work. Do not try to sacrifice yourself to stay away with your family .
