The survey, which was conducted by the Council of Graduate Schools, said that this years 8 per cent increase inforeign applications – which comes on the heels of last years 12per centrise – was an indication that the US governments attempts at making the student visa process more user-friendly appeared to be working. This years increase was driven mainly by a growing number of applicants from India and China – the two countries that annually send the most students to the US. Applications from Chinese students to US graduate programmes were up 17 per cent, while the number of Indian students applying rose 6 per cent. Thesurvey said that applications from students in the Middle East rose 9 percent.
