呵呵,行,我一定朝‘独立作者’这个目标努力。。。。。

刚刚看到美国有3600所正规大学,可怕。。。。

at least 214 of which are those relying on international students who have to register for at least one course and pay over $3000 as tuition fees per course in order to maitain legal standing here in the US after failing to find a job before the expiration data of OPT...

I think there are only less than 400 institutes could be considered as "university" here in the US.

I believe what you said about those '214' is true.

But I doubt there are only around 400 can be regarded as 'University'.

In the UK, there are around 120 unis in the Times University Ranking every year. Considering how big the US is and those 3600 so-called 'university', I reckon it should be more than 400

Dont know really,  just feel and guess

Yes, assistant professor. Then promoted to associate, full, and chair professor.

ProfCPA, single paper?! How a PhD student publish their works in top tier journal without the supervision of professors? There may be some special cases but not very usual. Normally, PhD student like to cooperate with professors to learn how to do research, and make sure that the quality of papers is high.

Sometimes (not uncommon) your advisor will not become a co-author when you do the major part of the work(generating idea, building model, etc). You do want to cooperate with them on research, but as I said, other people will tend to discount your role in the paper and may think you are not the main worker.

It's a rare case for fresh Ph.D. graduates to publish as single authors in top journals, at least in my target fields (strategy and entrepreneurship). Those who make the hit probably represent 1% of the graduates on the job market and they usually carry forward a well-done master thesis to achieve that goal.

My impression is that, even as co-authors, only 10-15 percent of the doctoral graduates will have one publication in A-ranking journals, and 20-30 percent will have one publication in any peer-reviewed jouranl, regardless of ranking. Interestingly though, if you check out the publication rates of students in top schools, they are not very different from students in less prestigious schools (top 50). On reason might be that those students only traget the cream of the crop, resulting in lower success rates.
