C的解疑问：为什么slowness不能表达原句的rate of growth has been slowed by acid rain？the damage to 与 the slowness of the...是并列的啊，damage可以表达，为什么slowness不能表达？

我认为，本题突出考点就是prep + －ing形式做状语，-ing形式主语与主句一致。

(A)  slowing the growth （缺少of）or damaging
    

(B)  the damage or the slowing of(or两边不平行) the growth of
    

(C)  the damage to or the slowness of the growth of
   

关于选项C要提到一个关于动作名词（动词具有名词形式）和动名词的区别问题，动作名词突出结果，-ing突出动作，如果真碰到这道题一样这种情况，搞不清楚到底用-ing形式，还是动作名词就干脆在后面加个...的动作（行为）或者...的结果（状态），本题可以说：迄今为止还没有达成一个共识，关于酸雨在侵蚀并且减缓美国东部森林生长这种（行为？结果？）下到底充当了一个什么角色？可见本句还是行为比较合适。

但是我还想知道og的这个解释是为什么，依据是什么？继续请教。

the slowness of the growth of  意思应该是,森林生长的缓慢,

如果联系前面的部分,意思就变成是, "酸雨对森林生长的缓慢起什么作用",这样与想要表达的意思,"酸雨在延缓森林森林生长上起什么作用" 还是有一定的差距的

后者表现出了,是酸雨使森林的生长缓慢

will_kk解释的很清楚了，slowness和slowing一个是状态，一个是动作，表达的不一样的。不过由OG的解释我突然想问，这个original sense从何而来呢？难道真的以原句为基础来做判断么？还是以最合理的句意来做判断呢？亦或原句在一些题目里面只是凑巧成为句意最合理的一句呢？

原则上, SC改错应不改变原句意,要更正的是修饰语位置不当,修辞不当或语法结构不合理等错误造成的歧义、不简洁或不规范。.

这也是不看全句和句意，只靠技巧答题，SC很难高分的原因之一吧。

但是，A的damage为verb,而C的为noun，为什么没有改变原句的意思？而slow变了词性就改变了意思，是不是damage是verb、noun表达同一个意思啊？

我想首先是逻辑意思，如果原句（A选项）逻辑意思合理，那么它就是original sense，尽管它可能有其他的语法、习语等的错误。

有逻辑错误的如og某一题：房子被heavily damage and destroy (好像是这个词)，房子不能同时承受着两个动作，要么heavily damage ，要么destroy ，两个词要用 or 连接。

原句没有逻辑错误的前提下，其他的选项不是A的意思即改变了原意。如原句：X=5；选项要是X=6就改变原意了。
