Location有多重要？选校苦恼中，请大家帮忙！

是不是Location的重要性可以弭补掉排名上的差距呢？ 今天有一位Alumni 跟我说，读商学院就是要找工作，所以大城市就是有优势。

苦恼中...

我拿到了Georgetown, Emory，USC及Kelley的Offer。要在这几家里面选择。先不考虑奖学金的问题，那麽究竟要选择那个学校呢？ 从排名来看，是Kelley及Emory高一些，可能生活费用也少一些。从Location来看，又是USC，Georgetown好一些。都是人数比较小的Program我想同学间的关系应该都不错。我是做Marketing的，毕业以後也希望在跨国公司做Branding方面的工作，最好是电子产品或汽车方面的产业。打算先在美国工作个一两年，然後回国。

请大家给我些建议，排排序好吗？若有这几个学校的校友请提供您们的看法，谢谢。

Location is absolutely important for your future career placement. Unless your program is a top 10, you don't have competitive advantages to find a job in other states. For automobile industry, i'd say emory, cause it's close to Detroit. For electronics, I will go with USC, cause California is the center of electronics/microelectronics industry. Kelly is OK if you wanna work in midwest, but it will not get you an ideal job in other areas. Georgetown is a nationally recognized university, so you should have lots of networking opportunities. Personally, just talking about the locations, I'd rank them as followings: Southwest (California) > Northeast > Big lake area > Midwest > West (O/W)> South. South is a traditionally poor area in the entire United States, therefore, it's not a place for MBA graduates to land a job.

我的疑惑是，若从Location+综合情况（包括我的career取向），那麽这个排序会否不同？

朋友跟我说，其实大多数人不知道像Kelley, Emory这样的学校的，还是要有名气的（就像你说的nationally regonized），而我稍微测试了一下，好像只有Georgetown多一些人知道。这对於以後求职有没有影响呢？

OK, for your case, Georgetown > USC. I think USC is a little bit overvalued.

I've been here for a while and I think school names are important for landing your first job. Let's say someone wants to work in New York, Georgetown is certainly better than any other schools.

Again, location matters. If you look at the complete ranking, and roughly divide them into different regions, you'll see that GMAT scores are higher for schools located in good locations, with the same ranking schools. Why, cause students know that they wanna spend two years in good locations and eventually land a job there. This is another reason why schools on coasts rarely gave out generous financial aid package compared with schools in the south or in the middle. (Demand V.S. Supply law applies here)

我不能同意这个排位。在学校层次相同的前提下，从找工作角度来讲，我的经验是：

• northeast是无争议的首位。
• 大湖及附近地区除Chicago外被称为rusty belt，听名字就知道了，夕阳型的重工业区。
• California经济总量很大，单列出来可以排名世界第六，但骨干是中小企业及新兴企业。
• South看是在哪里。Georgia, NC都是经济相当发达的州。Atlanta是美国最年轻，最有活力的城市之一。我以前说过，道指30种成分股有两种在Atlanta。其他州如MS，AL，AK，SC等确实比较穷，但Duke和Emory不愁吃穿。

另外southwest一般指Texas那一带，也是经济发达的地方。West coast一般默认是指加州。

Emory is in Atlanta, how come can Emory be close to Detroit??? They are far far away...one in the north and the other in the south...

sorry, I made a mistake here, I was thinking Ross instead of Emory.
